Wrestlemania 36 Predictions

Source: WWE.com

Wow.  What a wild time we’re living in.  The very thought that wrestling fans will be watching Wrestlemania unfold in front of no live audience in a small venue is scary when you think about it.  It really hits home how awful this pandemic/virus is.  The build to what is usually the biggest show of the year has also been hampered by vacant arenas, wrestlers not wrestling as much, and even some pulling out due to health concerns or because they’ve isolated due to COVID-19.

I actually feel bad about the talent not getting their big pay day for this event.  I also feel bad for those that work hard to get onto the card only for this year’s event to be how it is.  It’s no fault of WWE’s, of course.  I may argue that this show could have been postponed, but I know McMahon is always of the mindset that the show must go on.

I know this show was taped last week and thankfully I haven’t seen any spoilers.  There were very few people around when each match was taped, so that really prevented things from leaking.

This year’s show is spread out over Saturday and Sunday night, but WWE has not mentioned yet what matches will be on what night.  In one way, I hope they don’t because it’ll add to the surprise.  I’m actually excited to watch this show because a) I don’t think (or at least I hope) we’ll never see another Wrestlemania like this and b) I think WWE will do their best to bring a unique show to the fans.  I know the wrestlers will try their best.  Here’s what I think will go down on the show.

The Kabuki Warriors (Champs) vs. Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross –
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship

Source: WWE.com

There hasn’t been too much of a build to this match due to Kairi Sane being overseas.  She got back to the US in time to be able to have two weeks leading towards this match.  While there’s no story or real leaning for me to pick one team over the other, I think WWE needs to have the heels remain dominant here.  I still think it’s only a matter of time before Bliss and Cross split and that allows Bliss to get back to her heel ways.  Perhaps this match will be the starting point.

Winners: The Kabuki Warriors

Otis vs Dolph Ziggler

Source: WWE.com

Here’s a match that doesn’t scream “Wrestlemania” (one of many).  I guess it was time for Ziggler to get a singles match finally at a WM and here he is.  This storyline has done nothing for me but I guess many want to see Ziggler get his ass kicked for “stealing” Mandy Rose from poor Otis, like Rose doesn’t have a brain of her own.

It was revealed on last night’s Smackdown that Deville and Ziggler were in cahoots, and I’m sure that will play into how this match unfolds.  I think Ziggler will get the win here by having DeVille interfere.  I’m sure there will be some kind of outside stuff going on that will eventually cost Otis the match.

Winner: Dolph Ziggler

Aleister Black vs. Bobby Lashley

We already know that Lashley had to go into self-isolation after traveling outside the US.  This match isn’t happening, and I have no clue at this point who his replacement will be.  I don’t see Black losing to anyone he goes up against.

Winner: Black would have won this and will win his match, if he has one.

Elias vs. King Corbin

Source: WWE.com

Here’s another match that doesn’t seem Wrestlemania worthy.  Yeah, Corbin caused Elias to have quite the fall on Smackdown two weeks ago.  I’m actually not sure who will come out on top here.  Yes, Elias needs the victory to get his revenge and boost his “face” credibility but there’s always heat on Corbin when he wins and it keeps his heel persona as one of the strongest in the roster (maybe because people just find him completely boring, like I do).  I’ll flip a coin and say Elias picks up the win.  Corbin will still be hated no matter what.

Winner: Elias

The Street Profits (Champs) vs. Austin Theory & Angel Garza –
Raw Tag Team Championship

Source: WWE.com

Seeing how I haven’t written about wrestling in a while, it’s time for me to state I can’t stand the Street Profits.  They’re goofballs and I just can’t stand them.  I have no idea why Theory and Garza even have the opportunity at the tag titles.  I know the AOP and Buddy Murphy are all on the shelf due to injuries, and so is Andrade, who was supposed to be in this match to begin with, so maybe this is just the best WWE can come up with.  I’m sure Ryder and Hawkins could have been put into this match to give them more exposure and to thank them for their work over the years.  That seems logical, doesn’t it?

Anyway, with this match not being what was planned even a few weeks ago, a title change isn’t happening.  I’ll be watching this match only to see how good Theory supposedly is.
Winners: The Street Profits

The Miz & John Morrison vs. The Usos vs. The New Day –
Triple Threat Ladder Match for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship

Source: WWE.com

It’s probably known to all now that The Miz started showing symptoms of some kind of flu/virus before the Wrestlemania tapings and headed home, not to perform.  I’ve read there are ideas of one member from each team participating in a ladder match.  I have no clue if it will be for the titles or not.  That would be silly if it was, though.  Maybe they found a replacement for The Miz, but if they did, they wouldn’t be able to wrestle for the championships either.  I seriously have no idea how this will unfold.  They made it seem like the match will go on as advertised on last night’s show, so we’ll see how this goes down tonight or tomorrow.

Winner(s):  No flippin’ idea as I have no clue who will be involved or what the match will be.

Sami Zayn (Champ) vs. Daniel Bryan – Intercontinental Championship

Source: WWE.com

This match could be the match of the night (depending on what night is on).  I suppose this could be the match of both nights.  Zayn will have Nakamaura and Cesaro watching his back and I think Bryan will have Gullack around, too.  Then again, with all the social distancing measures, I’m not sure how many will be around outside the ring if not necessary.

On one side, Zayn just got the belt, so it would be weird to take it off of him so quickly.  On the other hand, we’ve seen short title reigns many times and people would totally behind another Daniel Bryan IC win.  I just think something is going to happen to allow Zayn to sneak away with the win.  I hope I’m wrong because I like seeing Bryan as any kind of champion.

Winner: Sami Zayn

Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins

Source: WWE.com

Here’s another match that could be the best one of the night (or, again over the two nights).  This match has been built well through various interactions between the two and their promos.  I don’t think there will be any stipulations or gimmicks involved in this match, and I hope that stays the same.  I think we need some pure one on one wrestling matches where people watching have had some investment leading up to it.

Rollins is getting some good heat over the last few months and I don’t see that increasing if Rollins wins, so I think we’re finally going to see Kevin Owens get a feel good, much needed, Wrestlemania win.

Winner: Kevin Owens

Rhea Ripley (NXT Champ) vs. Charlotte Flair – NXT Women’s Championship

I may sound like a broken record because this one also may steal the show, too! Here’s another match that has had a fantastic build and I think there is a lot of fan investment in it.  Charlotte lost last year, so are they thinking of paying her back here or will they use this match to put over Ripley for more of the WWE fan base that doesn’t know her (or NXT) well.  I’m putting my money on Ripley going over here, although I can see Vince making sure his main show’s talent beats the lesser known, or watched, brand.  I’m crossing my fingers the right thing happens here.  I suppose that no matter what, Ripley is getting the exposure on this show she needs for her career and I just don’t see Charlotte going down to NXT or the NXT championship being fought over on Raw.

Winner: Rhea Ripley

Bayley vs. Sasha Banks vs. Lacey Evans vs. Tamina vs. Naomi –
Elimination match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship

Source: WWE.com

This was supposed to be a six-woman match, but Dana broke had to isolate due to symptoms and WWE didn’t replace her with anyone else.  Here’s a match where I don’t see anything huge happening besides teasing a Banks/Bayley friendship meltdown again, which will lead them into another program.  When? Well, considering the next 2-3 months after the Raw after Wrestlemania may be up in the air, who knows!?

Winner: Bayley

Becky Lynch (Champ) vs. Shayna Baszler –
Raw Women’s Championship

Source: WWE.com

I think it’s been awesome that WWE has kept the belt on Lynch for the entire year.  It continued to build her up in the eyes of the fans.  This is why the title change that will happen on this show means even more now – Baszler is going to take out someone that has not been beaten in a year.  I’m wondering how much wrestling we’re going to see here or if it will be more of a brawl style match.  No matter what we see, a new champ will be crowned.

Winner: Shayna Baszler

Edge vs. Randy Orton – Last Man Standing Match

Source: WWE.com

Speaking of brawls, this is going to be a good one.  The lack of crowd will maybe take down the excitement level a bit because all the big spots that are done usually cause the crowd to erupt and it’s contagious to those of us at home, and the wrestlers themselves.  It’ll be interesting to see how this will all come across on TV. I think everyone wants to see Edge get retribution here, and that’s what will happen.  There’s no point for Edge to come back just to lose.

Winner: Edge.

John Cena vs. “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt – Firefly Funhouse Match

Source: WWE.com

It’s absolutely ridiculous WWE took the championship off Wyatt and hand it to OldBerg just so he could pass it onto Reigns (we’ll get to that later).  At least Wyatt has built to a high profile match with Cena, so that’s a positive.

I have no idea what this match will entail, I’ve read rumours that this will be more like a movie production and it was filled outside the performance centre.  Whatever it turns out to be, WWE needs to put Wyatt over here.  If they don’t, his stock will sink.  They already did the unthinkable at the last Super Showdown event, so it’s not unthinkable.  I think Cena signed up for the paycheck and to help put Wyatt over, though.  Let’s hope.  This should be quite interesting to watch and it’s one of the things on the show I’m most curious about.

The Undertaker vs. AJ Styles – Boneyard Match

Source: WWE.com

Here’s another gimmick match that was filmed for sure off site.  What will this look like? Again, I have no idea.  Will they just be fighting in a graveyard? Will there be supernatural aspect that will be built into it?

I think The Undertaker should put over Styles in this match, considering he’s considered only a special attraction nowadays.  The doesn’t mean that Styles isn’t getting the rub by having a match with ‘Taker.  I’m sure Styles sees this as quite the honour.  I’m going with the one who I want to win, though.

Winner: AJ Styles

Goldberg (Champ) vs. Brawn Strowman — Universal Championship

Source: WWE.com

Unless you’ve been under a rock, you know Reigns pulled out of Wrestlemania due to his own health concerns and to make sure he didn’t get his family sick.  I totally get that and applaud his decision to do what’s best for him.  WWE just announced on last night’s Smackdown that Braun Strowman is no challenging Goldberg.  It was a quick announcement with no build, no reason, no nothing.  I couldn’t believe that it was nothing more than a drop in the pan.  I hope they have some kind of story the night they square off explaining why Strowman got the spot.

We can assume that Goldberg was going to do the j.o.b. to Reigns to get the belt on him, so I’m not 100% sure now if there will be any title change.  Could they keep the championship on Goldberg until this pandemic is finished and go with the initial plans?

I read there were multiple endings filmed to help with potential leaks.  Seeing how WWE doesn’t need more part time champions, I think OldBerg will be getting pinned.

Winner: Braun Strowman

Brock Lesnar vs. Drew McIntyre – WWE Championship

Source: WWE.com

All I’m going to say here is, please, for the love of all holy in wrestling, get the title off Lesnar.  Build McIntyre up.  That’s what I want.  That’s what I think many are hoping to see.  I don’t see this match lasting more than ten minutes because, well, that’s how Brock Lazy roles.  Minimal work for big pay.  Send him home for a while again, Vince!

Winner: Drew McIntyre

I guess we’ll see what the taped Raw program after Wrestlemania weekend will go as even more rumours are out there speculating that this may be the last Raw for a while until this pandemic settles.  Stay safe and healthy, everyone!
