WWE Tables Ladders and Chairs (TLC) 2018 Predictions

The recent TV output from WWE has been atrocious.  Horrible story lines that have switched on a dime have left feuds abandoned without any resolution and some characters have been left to fizzle.  The ratings have sunk and even WWE tried to place all the blame on Baron Corbin and his character

Remember when Smackdown’s roster lost all their matches at the Survivor Series and Shane McMahon was supposed to reign down change? It never happened.  Did you know there’s a Universal Champion? No? Well, he’s sitting at home with a thumb up his ass and Vince is paying him to do so.  There’s so much boring stuff happening that even the positive stuff, like the slow rise of Drew McIntyre, is being overshadowed! If you’re like me, you’re thankful they finally turned Ambrose heel.  Unfortunately McMahon and co. decided to have him cut promos while getting injections in his arms and his ass.  Why??  Let the man go cut a regular promo!

Bitching aside, while I’m not terribly excited for Sunday’s show, there should be enough action and hopefully it will hold us over until both Raw and Smackdown pick up after the holidays (probably Jan 7th, 2019) as WWE heads towards the Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania season.

Here’s what I think will (or maybe should) happen on the show.

Rey Mysterio vs. Randy Orton – Chairs Match

This will be one of those matches where I will probably go do something else.  I have no interest in watching these two as this feud happened years and years ago.  I’ve never been a fan of either of these two so I have no vested interest in their characters, where the story goes, or who wins.  It’s hard to see Mysterio losing this match now that he’s back with the company.

Winner: Rey Mysterio

R-Truth & Carmella vs. Jinder Mahal & Alicia Fox – Finals of MMC Season 2

This is really on a PPV in 2018? Deary me.  I’d say who cares but the number 30 spots for the male and female Royal Rumbles are on the line here.  R-Truth and Carmella would be the more entertaining ones to win and come out at number 3 so that’s who I’m picking to win.

Winners: R-Truth & Carmella

Buddy Murphy (Champ) vs. Cedric Alexander –
WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match

20181207_TLC_Murphy_Cedric--5613b8a2619a08effbeed8686ac540d2

The matches with the 205 Live crew have been more entertaining on the last few PPVs than most of the main roster ones, so bet your ass that will be the case here.  Both Murphy and Alexander can go in the ring and these two will be looking to make a statement.  The focus will be on the in-ring action, not some stupidly forced story, and I think that’s what’s really making these matches get the full attention from the fans.  While Alexander would be a good Cruiserweight champ again, I don’t see the belt coming off of Murphy yet.

Winner: Buddy Murphy

Elias vs. Bobby Lashley – Ladder Match

The crowd digs Elias and I do, too, although I think the face turn came too fast.  Lashley still needs some super heat to make the crowd have more of a reaction to him, though.  WWE dropped the ball with Lashley’s return and it’s up to them to get the heat on him he should have gotten from day one, instead of indifference.  For that reason, the heel wins this match.

I’m a bit confused, though.  What on earth will these two men have to climb the ladder to get in order to win? Wouldn’t you think a ladder match would be more beneficial for Rollins and Ambrose? I digress.

Winner: Bobby Lashley

Finn Bálor vs. Drew McIntyre

It’ll be interesting to see if there’s a substitute for Balor in this match as he’s supposedly off the card due to an unknown illness.  No matter who is involved, or if they just give McIntyre promo time, McIntyre will win.  Now that I’ve had time to think, I can see Dolph Ziggler interrupting a promo and challenging McIntyre to another match.

Winner: Drew McIntyre

Natalya vs. Ruby Riott – Tables Match
20181203_TLC_NatalyaRiott--17fb8ee6497e38d1a81fcde1017bb293

I’m not a fan of WWE using the death of Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart as part of a story line (although Natalya says her dad would be OK with it).  It always seems like Vince won’t take advantage of any situation, so this isn’t surprising, but that doesn’t make it any less uncomfortable.  You’d think the blow-off to this awful story would be for Natalya to get her revenge and win but I think WWE is using this as a platform to heighten Riott as a top heel.  Due to that reason, I’m banking that Riott will win this match with a little help from the Riott Squad.

The Bar (Champs) vs. The New Day vs. The Usos –
Triple Threat Match for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship

I don’t doubt this will be an entertaining match but I just really don’t care who wins (well, as long as it’s not The New Day – I’m so sick of their antics).  I find the tag team division on Smackdown to always reset to these three teams so it won’t matter who wins or loses as two of them will be facing off again in singles matches until the next PPV.  Rinse, lather, repeat.

Winners: The Bar

Becky Lynch (Champ) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka –
Triple Threat TLC Match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship

This may be the match of the night and I think expectations will be high.  I’m really conflicted as to what is going to happen with the title here because I have a feeling they will definitely be moving towards Rousey vs. Lynch for Wrestlemania and maybe they’ll find a way to move Lynch over to Raw without the title.  They also could do title vs. title and just keep the belt on Lynch and keep her on the blue branded show.  I think this match may hint towards where they are going.

Assumptions aside, all three women are good enough to win and wear the gold and I think that’s what will have everyone guessing.  Make sure you’ve gone to the bathroom because I can see this one going for close to 30 minutes.

I can’t see WWE taking the belt off Lynch right now due to how over she is.  Then again, with triple threat rules, the champ really rarely looks bad if they lost.  If they aren’t keeping the belt on Lynch, Asuka will walk away with it.

Winner: Becky Lynch

Ronda Rousey (Champ) vs. Nia Jax – Raw Women’s Championship Match

ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz…  Rousey isn’t dropping the belt until Wrestlemania.

Winner: Ronda Rousey

Braun Strowman vs. Baron Corbin – Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match
20181203_TLC_BraunBaron--dd687c8d6f17542b1804c7afa98b6dd2

As of right now, WWE is playing up Strowman being extremely injured and not being able to compete in the match.  Corbin is bragging that he will be going out and ask the ref to do a count to 10 so he can win by forfeit.  You know that means something is going to happen.  Either Strowman will come out and squash Corbin or someone may take his place (before or after the forfeit happens). Who could take Strowman’s place? I’d hope WWE would strike with Reigns, Balor, and Lesnar out and bring in Bray Wyatt.  The place would go nuts and a win over Corbin would put Bray in a top babyface position – something the show needs to go alongside Rollins.

Winner: Not Corbin

Seth Rollins (Champ) vs. Dean Ambrose –
Intercontinental Championship Match
20181203_TLC_RollinsAmbrose--44570fe3d6dd94cae95dacb67ffeab87

Source: WWE.com

WWE is banking on the story between these two (and Ambrose’s digs at Reigns – ugh) to have fans invested in this match.  I would have loved to see one of the TLC stipulations for this match – and perhaps we’ll see that happen, with it being moved from the Corbin match.

Ambrose needs to continue to get heat and without the statements about Reign’s cancer so a win here against Rollins is a must, not only for this story line to continue for another month, but to anchor Ambrose as the main heel.  I can see Ambrose cheating to win to create even more anger in the live crowd.  If WWE doesn’t go through with a title change here, I have no idea what they’re thinking.

Winner: Dean Ambrose

Daniel Bryan (Champ) vs. AJ Styles – WWE Championship Match

Could we actually see the WWE Championship actually headline a PPV? Has hell frozen over???

We’ve all anticipated “matches of the year/night” with AJ Styles throughout 2018 but with awful booking decisions and shitty story lines (or should I say dick punches), they haven’t been as solid as many were hoping for.  I’ve been happy and impressed with the majority of Styles’ matches this year no matter what the outcome but this is one of those matches where two wrestlers should be allowed to go at it for 30 minutes and tear the house down.

This is another one of those matches where it would be a total surprise for the current champ to lose the belt so soon as they’re building Bryan’s newfound heel persona.  Unfortunately, that makes the ending seem predictable.  It wouldn’t surprise me if they added more dick punching into the match and it ends in a DQ. That would allow Daniel Bryan to come out on Tuesday to say the crowd wasn’t worth him fighting to a finish.  That could possibly stretch this feud out to the Royal Rumble.

I’m actually quite curious as to where both guys go after this feud. Rumour has it that Styles with be facing off against Orton at this year’s Wrestlemania. Dear god, I hope not.

Winner: Daniel Bryan

I’ll see if this show moves me to write and actually follow-up/review, as many this year haven’t done.
