Star Wars: The Black Series – Han Solo Figures And More! A May the 4th Special.
Hey, everyone! It’s been a little bit since I’ve put up a new figure feature. I’ve had a lot on my plate with my career, family life, and something secret I’m working on that I can’t talk about yet.I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take some time to get a quick feature up for May the 4th (Star Wars Day) and showcase a bunch of new Black Series action figures I’ve scored over the past few weeks. Many of them came from Northmen Collectibles. Make sure to check them out!
If this is the first time you’re coming across my site or a feature on Star Wars action figures, I’ll warn you that I give my two cents on the figures but I keep them in the package. Why? To get rich in the figure, of course! Nahhhh! In all seriousness, it’s just because I don’t have room to take the out to display, so I hang figures up on the walls.
Here’s my current haul…
This little guy is a straight repack of the figure that was a part of the second wave of the 40th anniversary line (I think in the video embedded at the end I may have said “20th” for some stupid reason). Anyway, there’s nothing new here but the figure is pretty well done. I like sculpting on the robe and the little details on the face. Fans of army building will like that there are more of these guys available. For those that really wanted the figure but didn’t want to spend the money for the 40th anniversary packaging and keep the aesthetic of the boxed packaging, their prayers have been answered.
Death Star Trooper
Basically everything I said about the Jawa can be applied here. The main difference is this figure has a new face sculpt so it’s a bit different than the one released before for the 40th anniversary. I like the face sculpt on this one more than the other but the other one was pretty good. It’s cool that there is a little variation with the generic humans working for The Empire.
Rey (Island Journey)
Sigh…Another Rey? Yeppers! While there are Rey figures still sitting on the shelves unsold, Hasbro decided to make another one using the new face technology. While the sculpt is pretty good, the paint still needs to be taken up a notch. It has gotten better, don’t get me wrong, but if they’re going to be spending the money to make more life-like portraits, they need to make sure the paint is bang-on.
Anyway, the figure has the same kind of accessories we’ve seen with other Rey figures before. I guess the other thing to brag about is this new Rey has a cloth poncho! Wow! I hope my sarcasm comes through.
The daughter of Han and Leia Solo from the Expanded Universe mythology has finally made her appearance in the Black Series. I’m just as surprised as many to see it. With Disney buying the franchise and killing almost at EU cannon, it’s almost a miracle to see something like this.
I wish she was more than just a pilot, though. I was expecting something a little bit more unique. I do really like the face sculpt but, again, the paint ruins it for me. Take a look at her wonky left eye. It’s a bit of a bummer to be stuck with a figure that looks a bit off.
I’ll start off by stating it: I’m going to watch the Han Solo movie. I’ve only seen the first TV spot and I’m staying away from any other trailer seeing how I’ve been successful this long. I’m going in with a positive attitude and will make my decision based on what I see with my eyes, not from rumors and not from what people have been bitching about on various and forums.
As for the figure, it looks like actor Alden Ehrenreich quite a bit. The outfit screams “Solo” but we’ll have to wait and see if Ehrenreich can channel the Solo within in the film so this figure will be proud to be associated with the Solo name.
Donald Glover seems to look as smooth as Billy Dee Williams, so I have a good feeling about him portraying Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo film. The outfit and face sculpt are outstanding on the figure and the same can be said about the paint. I think it’s a better figure than Han Solo! From what I’ve seen in other reviews, the cape is removable.
I gush about this figure in my video, and rightly so! It’s an awesome combination of a Scarif Trooper, a SnowTrooper, and others! I think the fur around the neck area is a unique touch and the glowing visor really makes the figure pop. There’s a bunch of weathering from the waist up but the legs seem pretty clean. I’m not sure why that design choice was made. Here’s hoping that Hot Toys announces one of these because I want one for my sixth scale collection!
Inferno Squad Agent
I have yet to see this Target (in the US) exclusive anywhere here in my town in Ontario, Canada. I’ve heard EB Games had gotten some in other areas in Canada but I wasn’t lucky to find one and my local EB Games said they never got even one.
Thankfully, this awesome guy named Ben, who is on two of the Star Wars figure FB groups I’m on, helped me out obtaining one. He’s also helped me score some other figures (and is currently helping me with a few more). Thank you so much, Ben! It’s so nice to see people in the collecting community, like you, helping others out. Good karma is around you, man!
Anyway, this figure is based off of the Trooper from the Battlefront 2 video game. I haven’t played it (for many reasons), but if there’s a new Trooper, I need to snag it. It’s basically a variation of a Tie Fighter Pilot but that’s alright with me.
Enjoy the video with my new set up!
