WWE Wrestlemania 34 Predictions

While I’m always excited for the biggest wrestling show of the year, this year I’m finding myself not as enthusiastic yet with only a few days to go before the show. There is a lot of star power on this card and there are going to be some simply breathtaking matches, moments, and surprises at this year’s show but the build to most of the matches on this card have been very lackluster and hasn’t come close to past Wrestlemania events for me.

I’ll be going through the lack of build-up and giving my two cents on what maybe could have been done to have people invest in them more seeing how I just don’t have the time to do a weekly write-up on Raw and Smackdown anymore.

The cool thing about Wrestlemania weekend is getting to watch the Hall of Fame Ceremony on Friday night and the NXT Takeover special on Saturday.  Vince, WWE Creative, and all the superstars who are wrestling at Wrestlemania should definitely have their eyes on the NXT show as many times in the past, it has been better than WWE’s main PPV that comes after it.  Hopefully it lights the fire under all performers and maybe makes WWE Creative stay on their toes.

Let’s not forget the Raw and Smackdown after Wrestlemania where new stars debut.  I’m sure we’ll see the return of Bobby Lashley on the 9th of April.  Who else will come back to WWE? Who will be called up from NXT?  What new feuds will start? Will anyone switch brands before a “superstar shake-up?”  We’ll see!

With all that being said, here’s what I think of the card and what will happen!

(Sunday EDIT): WWE Creative and the main roster better up their game after last night’s most excellent NXT Takeover show.  If you didn’t see it, make sure you did.  Front to back, it was PPV perfection.  Best Takeover in years!

205 Live has been so damaged over the past year.  The loss of Neville, the rosters showing up on Raw constantly for nothing more than random tag matches, the focus away from The Brian Kendrick (one of my faves), the firing of Enzo Amore for the allegations against him, and lack of character development/stories have all contributed to the mess the show is in.  I used to have my PVR ready to tape it every week but I ended that months ago.

With all that said, to keep the brand on the up and up after this match no matter who wins, stories need to be told so people can invest in the talent.  I still have no real idea of who either of these guys and what they represent and I’ve watched 205 Live when it started for months.  That’s pretty sad.  I’m honestly not sure who will win this because I’m not sure which one will be the best person to be the face of the rebirth of the show – something I think they’re trying to do now with Drake Maverick (aka Rockstar Spud) as the GM. I think Cedric Alexander has had more TV time, so I’m going with him, although I know Mustafa Ali can also bring it in the ring.

I’m still not 100% sure who is all in this match.  Is it every lady from both shows who isn’t in a singles match? Are NXT talent showing up? Are past talent showing up like they did at the Royal Rumble? Will the Bella’s want more time in the spotlight and co-win it? There are so many questions and variables, it’s hard to pick a winner.

The clue may be in the story currently on Raw between Sasha Banks and Bayley.  I think WWE has dragged it out too long and are still having trouble establishing who exactly the face and heel are in this feud.  Yeah, Sasha Banks is being arrogant but she’s toying with Bayley after Bayley did nothing but whine and complain about what Sasha did in matches where it was every woman for themselves.  You really can’t blame Sasha for being on Bayley for all this.

This feud should have had a stronger story coming out of the Elimination Chamber PPV so they could have had these two in a match at Wrestlemania.  Doesn’t anyone remember how these two tore the house down with their two major NXT matches? It’s a shame these two couldn’t have brought their talent to the biggest show of the year.  I’m sure both of them are secretly thinking the same thing and are very disappointed.  I’m going with Bayley winning to really get the heat on Sasha doing something after the win.  Then again, I can see Sasha winning by cheating Bayley out of a win.  Either way, I think one of these two are winning to try and keep their feud in some kind of motion.

Winner: Bayley

I will state that I can say the same thing here I did above about the mystery of the participants.  I’ll be brief and say out of everyone currently announced the only two I can see potentially winning this are Woken Matt Hardy to keep his status high or the recently re-signed Dolph Ziggler.  I’m going with my favourite underappreciated talent for this one.  Winning this has to mean something and the winner needs to be pushed harder than others in the past.

Winner: Dolph Ziggler

Alexa Bliss (Champ) vs. Nia Jax – Raw Women’s Championship Match

Isn’t the situation surrounding this match quite ironic?  People were bitching and complaining years ago about Mickie James’ last story line before she left WWE where it was all about body shaming and the unforgettable “Piggie James” tag.  Fast forward to now and James is Alexa Bliss’ lackey (for some reason after they hated each other a few months ago) and now she’s laughing about the body shaming Bliss is doing to Nia Jax? Unreal.

So, here we are in 2018 and the best Vince and Co. can do is create a story between these two that revolves around Jax’s plus-sized status?  That’s the best heat they can generate for Bliss’ character? I suppose the lesson here is don’t bully because eventually you’ll get your comeuppances and I’m sure that will happen here to Bliss.  The only way I see Bliss walking out of Wrestlemania with the title is by DQ courtesy of Mickie James or by a count-out.  I don’t see them doing that, though.  I think they want to see what Jax can do with the title and the crowd behind her.  If all else fails, they know Bliss is around to succeed with it again.

Winner: Nia Jax

Sheamus & Cesaro (Champs) vs. Braun Strowman  and ?? – Raw Tag Team Championship

Once again, there’s no real story here leading up to this match.  What the audience has is the mystery surrounding who Braun Strowman will have as a partner.  My pick is either Samoa Joe or The Big Show, who has recently revealed he’s resigned.  I have no doubt Strowman and whoever his partner is will be walking out of Wrestlemania as the new champions.  The Bar is great and I’d be fine with them winning and carrying on as champs.  Strowman needs a partner who eventually will turn on him so a feud can happen.  Isn’t that always the way it goes? If The Bar isn’t winning the belts back any time soon, I can see them breaking up at the show or shortly thereafter.

Winners: Brawn Strowman and his mystery partner

Randy Orton (Champ) vs. Bobby Roode vs Jinder Mahal vs. Rusev –
Fatal 4-Way Match for the United States Championship

Here we get yet another match with more people than needed thrown in and no real story here.  Does Randy Orton really need a title? Get that boring-ass off TV with a loss here, please! It’s nice to see WWE giving Mahal some sort of title match after what he had on his shoulders last year carrying the WWE Championship.  Roode needs to enter a feud with the winner and turn heel.  He’s so damn boring as a face.  Lastly, I think WWE would be stupid to throw money down the toilet with not giving the win to Rusev here.  With that said, he’s my pick and Wrestlemania will be “Rusev’s Daaaaaayyyyyyyy!”

Winner: Rusev

The Miz (Champ) vs. Seth Rollins vs. Finn Bálor – Intercontinental Championship Match

Again, no real story here.  I’m actually surprised they didn’t turn this into a ladder match or have some other sort of specialty match to create even more of a hook.  If Balor doesn’t come out as The Demon here, I’ll be shocked, too!

Look, I was a fan of the match between Balor and Rollins on Raw on Monday but I think they gave so much away when they could have saved those near falls on each other for this match.  I know adding The Miz does create something slightly new for people to watch but it’s yet another multi-man, “get everyone on the card because they can’t build stories just between two wrestlers” stuff.  I think The Miz is going to be getting some time to be a dad for a few weeks, so I see him losing the belt.  The question is, there are two excellent people to lose it to and I actually want to flip a coin to decide because I couldn’t tell you.  Coin flipped and….

Winner: Seth Rollins

The Usos (Champs) vs. The New Day vs. The Bludgeon Brothers –
Triple Threat Match for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship

The Bludgeon Brothers have been getting built up as unstoppable monsters by squashing jobbers.  The Usos have been kicking ass while The New Day are stale should break-up (unless they’re going to be permanently used backstage to sell WWE’s products.  I’d love The Usos to walk out as the champs because I do enjoy them on the mic and their work in the ring, but I think WWE wants The Bludgeon Brothers to make a statement in front of the massive crowd.

Winners: The Bludgeon Brothers (can we get a name change, please?)

Charlotte Flair (Champ) vs. Asuka – SmackDown Women’s Championship Match
20180323_WM34_Asuka_Charlotte--48bb58b6b903bd750243db6da3540822

Source: WWE.com

The only story WWE is pushing for this match is Asuka’s winning streak and it’s not ending here.  Charlotte hasn’t even cut a good promo talking about the importance of being the Smackdown women’s champion and how it’s her mission to be the one that beats Asuka’s streak.  There’s really been no focus on Charlotte and that really tells you where the outcome of the match is heading.  Don’t be surprised if Asuka holds the title until next year’s show and square off against Rousey, depending how her year goes.

Carmella may try and cash in the MITB but think about the time it’ll take her to get down the ramp and then cash it in.  If she couldn’t do it in time on Smackdown, how in the hell will she do it here. If she tries, she will fail.

Winner: Asuka

Daniel Bryan & Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn

Source: WWE.com

I’m so very happy for Daniel Bryan to be able to return to the ring.  I’m also happy for us fans to be able to see him perform in the ring and once again become of something more relevant and inspiring than being a GM.  The story line between Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon was getting so drawn out that I wanted to change the channel any time they were shown.  For some reason, their relationship was patched up quickly and everything is just water under the bridge now thanks to them talking and hugging it out on Smackdown on Tuesday.  Or is it?

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have been great as heels on the show but they too have been dragged down by the longevity of this feud.  Everyone needs to move on after this match and thankfully, if they lose, Owens and Zayn will be heading to Raw to feud with new people.

This all seems way to easy, though.  We possibly have a predictable loss for the heels so they can move brands tied to a quick make-up between the two bosses of Smackdown who have not been courteous to each other for the past few months.  Toss in a feel-good moment people are expecting from Daniel Bryan winning just because it’s his return match.  It just screams for a Shane McMahon heel turn.  I don’t know what the logic or reasoning would be for it but my Spidey-Sense is telling me things aren’t going to go a smooth as they should.  Hell, why would Shane announce he’s stepping away from his role on Smackdown?  Something unexpected is going to happen here to set the stage for Bryan vs. McMahon in a ring.

Winners: Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn

Kurt Angle & Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H & Stephanie McMahon

Want to know the reason I’m interested in this match? I want to see how green Rousey is in a WWE ring.  I’m hoping she surprises me and the millions watching, though.  We know she’s tough but we’ve seen many tough people not find their way in WWE.

Besides that, I don’t care to see Stephanie in the ring and I really wished they saved Kurt for a huge one-on-one match with someone just so we could see if he could still bring it in the ring.  Triple H? Well, I can take him or leave him nowadays.

I’m sure the match will end with Stephanie finally getting what she deserves and Rousey getting the pin.  Then again, we have a McMahon who demeans all talent and comes across as the most powerful person backstage. We also have Triple H, who couldn’t lay down for Sting at Wrestlemania.  Those two huge egos could potentially influence those in the back and not do “what’s best for business.”  I would not be surprised in the least.

And for the love of god, can we just drop the “Rowdy” from her title before it sticks. NO ONE will ever be Rowdy again.  That was Roddy Piper and always will be.

Winners: Kurt Angle and Ronda Rousey

AJ Styles (Champ) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura – WWE Championship Match

This build-up could not have been easier to hype but I feel WWE hasn’t done enough to really elevate how much of a treat this match will be for everyone.  Thankfully most people know these two are capable of having the match of the night and are expecting it.  I am hoping WWE gives these two the time needed to have the match they can to tell the story they should.  This is the match I’m looking forward to the most on the show and I wouldn’t be surprised if this actually kicks off the show.

As for deciding who wins here, I don’t think it’s Nakamura’s time yet.  He hasn’t been in any huge feuds on Smackdown and I really think WWE hasn’t done what they should with him yet to get more casual fans invested in him besides his entrance.  Giving him a run with the title may help solidify that he’s a main event player, of course, but I don’t think they’re going to do that until the inevitable rematch before Styles gets moved over to Raw.  I think Wrestlemania is going to be the PPV that A-J-Styles-built!

Winner: AJ Styles

Brock Lesnar (Champ) vs. Roman Reigns – Universal Championship Match
20180323_WM34_Lesnar_Reigns--f92b843c4ed83f621e63324cacbf3fc8

Source: WWE.com

The only thing that makes me want to watch this match is to see how brutal it may be.  Brock Lazy is supposedly leaving WWE and good riddance.  I want to have a champ that shows up more than once a month and works for their money if it’s someone I don’t want as a champ.

Roman Reigns is still going to have a shitload of boos thrown in his direction.  I don’t hate him, I hate his booking.  I’ve said it many times.  I hate the Hogan “Hulking” up and Super Cena style of hero in wrestling.  I hate seeing those guys kick out of anything and basically needing their legs shot or cut off in order to stay down or not kick out.

If the WWE audience who really can’t stand Reigns really wants to make a point, people should walk out en masse during the main event if they don’t support the direction the company is taking with Roman Reigns.  That would never happen (especially for the prices paid for the tickets), but booing as loud as possible will be the norm.

I’m actually curious to hear what the response will be based on how they were trying to make Lesnar out to be the heel over the past couple of weeks. Remember at Wrestlemania XX when the fans knew Lesnar and Goldberg were on their way out? Could we see a match with that much crowd hatred or more from the hardcore fans?  I suppose that’s another reason I’m interested in watching this match.

Winner: Roman Reigns

And somewhere on the show…..

John Cena vs. The Undertaker??
20180402_wm_takercena--fe83c66d680fd2b76bbe75713eaad8ce

Source: WWE.com

While the build for this has frustrated many people, I actually don’t mind it.  It’s something they’ve never done and really kept fans guessing and keeping the mystique of The Undertaker alive.  People have bought their tickets for this event months and months in advance without knowing any of the matches, so what does it matter if this match hasn’t been officially announced or confirmed for the card?  It’s also not like people are going to sign up for the WWE Network if they already haven’t.   I think when the confrontation happens, the place will go ape-shit.  I don’t know how it will all unfold but I would bet money that a match will happen.

Vince and WWE would not have used all the TV time they have if nothing was going to happen.  I could see the possibility of these two getting in each other’s faces and an official match not happening with The Undertaker giving Cena a beating and Tombstone then leaving.  I could also see them in a stare-off and then two others interrupting them and an impromptu tag match occurs.

Ah, who am I kidding? These two will fight and Cena’s losing streak while continue while The Undertaker gets one more win at Wrestlemania.

Winner: The Undertaker

(SUNDAY AM EDIT – I’ve read other people’s thoughts and some are suggesting there IS a showdown between the two but it leads to a challenge for next year’s show where it could possibly be a career match.  I’d be OK with that, too, but I’m sure ‘Taker will do something to Cena after all the badmouthing.

I’ll giving my thoughts on the show sometime Monday or Tuesday.  I may wait to publish my thoughts on it until Raw AND Smackdown have aired to comment on the huge nights that usually follow Wrestlemania.  Enjoy, everyone!
