WWE Raw and Smackdown Thoughts – April 17th & 18th, 2017

Two weeks into the “Superstar Shake-Up” and I’m a tad underwhelmed. This piece reflecting on this week’s shows will be way shorter than usual due to the fact that nothing really stuck with me besides a few things.

I guess the “big” news coming out of Raw is the ring collapsing during the match between Braun Strowman and The Big Show. The match was decent and delivered a pretty cool “OMG” moment we don’t see often. I expect another match between the two next week.

Alexa Bliss became the new number one contender to Bayley’s championship so at least we’ll be seeing something fresh in the women’s division on Raw.

Besides those two bits mentioned above, absolutely nothing else resonated with me on Raw. For some reason, I think we’ll see things pick up again after the Payback PPV in less than two weeks. I mean Jericho lost against Joe and will be losing to Kevin Owens at the PPV. The upcoming tag match between Cesaro & Sheamus vs. the Hardy Boys has no fuel because there’s no reason to boo either team or see Cesaro & Sheamus go over the returning duo.

On Smackdown, the huge news is the unexpected win for Jinder Mahal to become the next in line for the WWE Championship. I’m all for this as this really gives Mahal an opportunity to shine and someone to build. I actually REALLY liked his promo after he won. He totally called out the American fans for booing him because of he’s not a white, middle-class American. I just hope the rest of the heat he gets from the crowd from this point forward doesn’t rely on ethnicity, though. Who am I kidding? It’s Vince McMahon with the final say and he loves going down that route!

I didn’t understand Randy Orton coming down to the ring to say his piece to Mahal but Mahal just stood there and didn’t do anything heelish at all! Then we got another stupid “creepy” Wyatt promo with sound effects. Whoopie. I can’t wait for that feud to be over and I’m thinking Bray Wyatt needs to be repackaged when he loses again.

Charlotte is the new number one contender for the Smackdown Women’s championship. That didn’t take long, did it? Expect to see a new champ next week.

Poor American Alpha. That’s all I can say. How do you get beat by Primo and Epico? Ugh…

The AJ Styles/Baron Corbin match was done well and a refreshing new match-up. I liked the count-out win for Styles because it protected both men. Holy shit…Styles is so over.

There you go for this week: short, sweet, and to the point.
