WWE No Mercy 2016 Results and Thoughts
WWE’s No Mercy was a great event on paper, but a sideline and a head-scratching match order really made the event seem not as great as it should have been. Before I even go into the matches, which were great, for the most part, I have to state that the commentating for this event was the WORST I’ve heard in ages.
AJ Styles (Champ) vs. John Cena vs. Dean Ambrose –
WWE Championship Triple Threat Match
I’d like to know who the hell thought that having this match, the MAIN event, going on first was a good idea. You can try and sell us other matches as the main event, but WWE Creative, that’s not happening. They COULD have done it with the Intercontinental Championship match but they didn’t.
I’ll say this to make this article quick: this match was awesome. There was selling, big spots, and classic wrestling all involved. The whole idea of Styles tapping out by dual submission moves was a great idea. Having the ref also saying the match would continue was great.
The shitty part about a 20+ minute match was how Styles grabbed a chair and demolished Cena with it to score the pin. I know count outs and disqualifications aren’t in the cards, but if that was the case, why didn’t someone just grab a chair or a foreign object out of the gate and do this? The right person went over and I hope that Cena and Ambrose continue their feud as it has been the most exciting part of the whole feud. I wonder who will be next to step up to challenge Styles for the championship next. Winner: AJ Styles
Nikki Bella vs. Carmella
This was a decent TV-esque match but I’m sorry, the wrong person won. I have no idea why you’d build Carmella up so much over the past two months just to have her lose in an unspectacular fashion. Horseshit booking. Winner: Nikki Bella
Heath Slater and Rhyno vs. The Usos
This match was decent, too, but once again I have no idea why the booking went this way. The Usos are trying to be rebuilt as bad asses with a new attitude. The story with Slater and Rhyno has been told, so there is really no reason for them to hold the belts anymore. I like that WWE have let them stay as champs because they do deserve a run with the gold, but if The Usos weren’t going to win here, I don’t understand the feud. Winners: Heath Slater and Rhyno
Jack Swagger vs. Baron Corbin
Another TV-style match with this one. Nothing really to go into detail with than Corbin getting the win to put their square offs to 1-1. I want to see more between these two but want some passion put into the story. Winner: Baron Corbin
The Miz (Champ) vs. Dolph Ziggler –
WWE Intercontinental Championship vs. Career Match
Why this match didn’t close the show is beyond me. Just when you think these two could top themselves, they put on another clinic that all wrestlers should watch and take notes from. The Miz and Dolph Ziggler should both get extra pay for elevating the IC Championship to new heights. I’m totally on board for these two to have yet another showdown but perhaps it’s time for The Miz to step once again into the WWE Championship picture. Winner: Dolph Ziggler
Alexa Bliss vs. Naomi
After such an excellent match this was a let down as we were supposed to get a WWE Womens championship match and got this instead. Not only did we get another TV match, Naomi beat Bliss! Why in the hell would they do that and still hype some upcoming match between Bliss and Becky Lynch in November? Bliss lost to someone not even in the title picture (as of last night) and now they want us to think she’s a threat to Becky’s title? Idiots. Winner: Naomi
Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt
Fire whoever made the final call for this to be the match to end the event. The crowd didn’t care. I didn’t care. I don’t care about Orton. I don’t care about Wyatt anymore as he loses anything meaningful. Who in the hell works the lights in the back of the show?? Who’s idea was it for the mirror Orton was looking in before his match to get all disjointed? This has been an awful feud and the match didn’t do anything at all for me. I don’t care that Luke Harper showed back up Eric Rowan is now out with an injury so it’s still not a full “family.” By the time Rowan is back who the fuck knows what they’ll be doing with Wyatt beside having him cut the same promos and lose. Winner: Bray Wyatt
To end, this was a good PPV with two excellent matches that should be seen by all wrestling fans bunched in with a weirdly presented card and shit stained “main event.” On the plus side, the Toronto Blue Jays sweeped Texas last night. Go Jays!!!
